Yannick Semedo, the Cape Verde international, left Portugal to play for Al Jabalain in Saudi Arabia. The midfielder signed a one-year contract with an option for another with the Saudi Arabian club, under the guidance of Portuguese coach Filipe Gouveia.
Semedo's departure is a blow to the Portuguese national team, which needs to strengthen its midfield for the 2026 World Cup. The player was key for the Cape Verde national team, which participated in the tournament.
Al Jabalain in Saudi Arabia starts the season in August, and Semedo will be ready to play. The Portuguese national team needs to find a replacement for the midfielder, who was essential to the team.
