Portugal's national team secured qualification for the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals with a 2-1 win over Norway at the Estádio do Dragão. The victory, a fourth from four games under head coach Jorge Jesus, gives them 12 points and an unassailable lead at the top of Group A4.
Cancelo's quick reply
Norway took a surprise lead in the 36th minute when Kristoffer Ajer headed in a Martin Ødegaard corner. Portugal's response was instant. Just two minutes later, João Cancelo met Nuno Mendes's cross with a first-time finish to level the score. The quick equaliser settled the side, who went on to dominate possession and create the better chances.
Ramos delivers late winner
The second half saw Portugal in greater control, with Norway struggling to contain them. The winner arrived in the 79th minute. João Félix, played in by Vitinha, laid the ball off for Gonçalo Ramos inside the box, and the striker finished coolly. Jorge Jesus's men managed the game well in the closing stages, despite Francisco Conceição's sending-off in the 86th minute for a second yellow card.
The team's next fixture is at home to Denmark on 14 November, a match that could decide top spot in the Nations League group. They conclude the group stage away to Wales on 17 November.
