Portugal wins gold at the World Veterans Championship
For the first time in history, Portugal has a team that is the champion of the World Veterans Championship. The +40 men's national team defeated the Spanish team in a thrilling match at the Court Central of the Jamor Tennis Complex.
Daniel Gimeno-Traver, Fred Gil, Adrian Menendez-Maceiras and Gonçalo Nicau were the protagonists of the match and gave a show to the many spectators at the legendary Central do Jamor.
The Portuguese team, also with João Ferreira and José Ricardo Nunes, celebrated with the scores of 7-5, 6-7(4) and 10-4, to the delight of many compatriots in the stands.
This was the third final of Portugal at the World Veterans Championship: in 2021, the +35 men (with Gil and Nunes in the team) had given up the decision in Umag; in 2024, the +35 women had also finished with the silver, in Jamor.
