Historic investment
Thomas Müller, 36, and Mats Hummels, 2014 World Cup champion, bought 90 % of Estrela da Amadora’s SAD for €40 million (R$240 million). Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer also participates in the investment.
The deal was formalized last week, according to the Portuguese newspaper "A Bola", and the official announcement is expected in the coming days. The investor group is German and will take over the club’s professional football operations.
Management structure
Johannes Mosmang will be appointed as the new president of the SAD, while Francisco Lopo will remain as CEO. Paulo Lopo, who bought the club in 2020 for only €72 k (R$432 k), will leave the SAD presidency but does not intend to step away from football.
Estrela’s trajectory
When Lopo arrived, Estrela competed in the Campeonato de Portugal. Under his management, the club returned to the elite and is now in its fourth consecutive season in the Primeira Liga. The José Gomes stadium, in Reboleira, was restored and resumed hosting matches.
Investment context
In May, "A Bola" reported that a group linked to Müller, Hummels and Sommer was negotiating an investment that could reach €45 million (R$270 million). The final agreement was closed at €40 million.
Investor profiles
Thomas Müller, who spent almost his entire career at Bayern Munich and currently plays for Vancouver Whitecaps, has 33 titles with the German club. Mats Hummels, who ended his career after playing for Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Roma, is also a 2014 World Cup champion. Yann Sommer, who played for Borussia Mönchengladbach, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, currently plays for Club Brugge.

The German group will assume control of Estrela da Amadora’s professional football, aiming to boost the club’s performance in the Primeira Liga and solidify its presence in the Portuguese scene.
